Educator, Drummer, Label Owner
Currently, Willie Jones III serves as drummer for 13 year old Jazz pianist, Joey Alexander – in addition to leading his own quintet. For more than 25 years, Mr. Jones III has amazed audiences worldwide with his dynamic skill and control. Near the end of 1994, while Jones was reaching for a higher level of drumming dexterity, he gained the privilege of playing sideman to the renowned vibist Milt Jackson, where Jones learned the importance of pacing and sensitivity. Meanwhile, his musical career continued to unfold. From 1995 through 1998, he was a member of Arturo Sandoval’s band and is featured on Sandoval’s GRAMMY award winning release Hot House (N2K). Subsequently, Jones recorded with Horace Silver on Jazz Has a Sense of Humor (Impulse!).
When he is not touring the world, Mr. Jones is an educator at Northwestern University as well as University Of California San Diego and has performed on well over 60 recordings. In 2016, his recording “Groundwork” peaked at #3 and remained on the Jazzweek top 100 for over 20 weeks. “Groundwork” was #9 on the top 100 list for 2016.
One-Stop Festival Shop!
- WAFS is a confluence of Music, Art and Education designed to fill the vacuum created by organizations that have opted
to reach only for the low-hanging fruit.
The initial concern is that there are a multitude of festivals and live performances geared exclusively
towards the millennial audience; however there is an inadequate number which focus primarily on the pre-millennial or baby-boomer demographic.
WAFS programming stands to bridge the gap for the baby-booming audience seeking an entertainment experience suited more towards their specific tastes. Our performing arts center-based are secure,
climate-controlled and comfortable, as opposed to many loud, outdoor millennial-focused events. Our Artists are professionals, educators love what they do and travel worldwide.
